Overview/scope of works
Premier Drainage Solutions successfully completed a Surface water sewer diversion in London Hackney, This Thames Water 600mmØ surface water sewer diversion approximately 17m linear meters not exceeding 6.5m in depth, reconnection to an 1500mmØ surface water sewer at depth not exceeding 7.5m via a new 3000mmØ Type 1A manhole constructed over the top of the 1500mmØ live surface water. Lane closure, and reinstatement to strict highway standards — all delivered to Thames Water’s specifications.
Key Requirements & Challenges:
Highway Location & Traffic Management:
The connection point was located within a live carriageway, and due to the depth and layout, a part lane closure was required. This introduced a 6-8 week Section 50 licence lead time, necessitating careful planning and local authority & client coordination.
Depth of Excavation (7.5m):
Excavated using a 21-tonne machine with grab attachment, with safety and protection measures in place to ensure stability and protect the existing infrastructure, this type of machinery can only be operated by fully qualified plant operator experienced in deep drainage.
Precise Connection Method:
The existing 1500mmØ surface water sewer was cut carefully removing the crown of the pipe, with the new concrete base poured which including a new 600mmØ concrete lateral pipe installed within the base, concrete set we lowered the new 3000mmØ concrete rings into place.
- Highway Reinstatement to Specification:
- Compacted MOT Type 1 in layers using a mechanical trench rammer/ forward reverse diesel wacker plate.
- Cut edges sealed with bitumen edge sealer before applying the specified asphalt.
- Finished with new anti-skip resin.
At Premier Drainage Solutions, we do not rely on temporary reinstatements. We believe in completing work permanently and to the highest standard, preventing future disruption and repeat visits.
