Project Overview

Premier Drainage Solutions was appointed to deliver a specialist drainage package for the ROJ Café Kiosk, a new community facility located within Ducketts Common, a busy public park in Wood Green. Working in close collaboration with the London Borough of Haringey and Marlborough, our team was responsible for the design and construction of a 2.4m diameter manhole at 7.5m depth, and the live connection into a 525mm foul sewer.

Scope of Works

  • Pre-construction Planning & Liaison

Early engagement allowed us to identify a cost-effective and efficient solution for the drainage infrastructure. We handled direct liaison with Thames Water, streamlining approvals and ensuring compliance.

  • Manhole Construction

A pre-formed concrete caisson ring system was used to construct the 2.4m manhole to a depth of 7.5m. Due to the depth and urban location, we adopted a caisson shaft sinking method, with a 2m horizontal timber heading to safely reach the main sewer.

  • Sewer Connection

A 150mm pre-formed saddle connection was installed to the live 525mm Thames Water foul sewer. The work required precision and specialist knowledge due to the live nature of the sewer and its urban setting.

  • Traffic & Public Interface

As this project was located within a public park, we implemented a robust public protection and stakeholder communication plan. Works were carried out with minimal disruption, maintaining public access throughout.

Outcome

The project was delivered on time, on budget, and to exemplary QHSE standards. Our collaborative approach, technical expertise, and clear stakeholder communication ensured a smooth and efficient delivery. The manhole and sewer infrastructure now support the new café development, improving facilities for the local community.
