What is drainage mapping?

Put simply, drainage mapping is an on-site service in which your drain system is inspected with a camera and then mapped out with software. Also referred to as CCTV drain mapping, this surveying service provides you with the location of your site’s sewage lines. This is possible through the survey’s resulting site drainage plans, created by the surveyor.

These plans contain crucial information for homeowners, architects, property developers, and site builders – anyone who needs to know exactly what’s underground for building or compliance purposes. We carry out these surveying works and provide clear and accurate maps for those who plan to build

How it works

The Premier Drainage Solutions team follows an efficient process for its CCTV drain mapping service.

  • Initial consultation – You provide us with your property or site’s information over the phone for our team to assess, and we’ll offer you a tailored solution plus a quote. We’ll also source any existing plans of the mains system on record.
  • On-site preparation – If necessary, we’ll conduct a quick minor jetting service to clear any small blockages that could obstruct our cameras. This is typically free of charge, depending on the state of the blockages.
  • Access point mapping – We’ll identify and open any manholes, inspection chambers, and other access points on the property ground, then plot them on a map either sourced by us or supplied by you.
  • CCTV camera survey – We then conduct a live analysis of the drain system without requiring water shut-offs or facility downtime. We use high-resolution cameras to suit the pipes, including 60m reel push-rod cameras for standard lines and 100m reel crawler cameras for larger Victorian sewers, allowing us to pinpoint misalignments, damage, and blockages with precision.
  • Reporting – Using the recorded footage, we use water authority-approved software to analyse the results and compile a thorough report, including our own recommendations for next steps.

CCTV Drain Mapping FAQs

Why should you get your drains mapped?

If you’re building a new property or extending a building and dig straight into a pipe, all work will stop. A detailed and accurate property drainage map can make the difference between a project running smoothly and it halting indefinitely. Professional plans from survey teams such as ours mean avoiding delays, redesigns, extra costs, and a lot of unnecessary stress.

How much does drain mapping cost?

The cost of your drain mapping survey and report depends on the size and type of the property. Call us, provide us with site measurements and the property type, and we can work on a clear and transparent quote with a full process breakdown.

How long does drainage mapping take?

The time required for a full drainage mapping service depends on the size of the drainage system and its complexity. For most residential projects, the process typically takes a few hours to complete. Commercial projects may take longer if they cover a larger area and a more complex drainage network.

“From the start to finish you could see how professional a company they were. Everything was done without inconvenience to the surrounding area, and I was kept informed of what was happening every step of the way.”
